The SMARTZ Club meets every Saturday from 10-3pm and since we moved into Scarth’s Yard last August, they have been sprucing up the yard to turn it into a tourist attraction. And it is working. With an average visitor count of 50 per day (and growing), the Whistle Art Stop is a buzz of activity these days. In the last year, we have successfully set up a commercial gallery space showcasing the work of 20 local artists and 30 members of the  Haltwhistle Art Club. We also have crafts and gifts filling our shop all made by local artists and we are the only suppliers of Spectrum Paints between Manchester and Glasgow. Our new exhibition and project space, the SHED, occupies 2,500 sq feet of space in the old joiner’s shed and our workshop is a hive of activity from young and old. We have a busy programme of events and activities throughout the year (see more on our website)

So the award for Best Business Project is well earned by the SMARTZ Club for providing us with a blaze of colour and objects of intrigue that pull people into our art centre and the £250 prize money will go a long way to providing resources to continue the work. The brightly decorated wellies, the coloured tyres, the 7ft alien roman soldier and the spaceship parked at our entrance all add to creating a unique space for people to share and enjoy …. and spend their money! Well done, SMARTZ Club!  Family art at its very best.
